- BWP (marine) plywood
- BWP plywood stands for Boiling Water Proof plywood, made to IS 710 and built to withstand repeated, long wetting.
Why does the BWP vs BWR difference matter when planning your home?
BWP plywood (IS 710) suits places that stay wet for long stretches. This includes under-sink cabinets and bathroom vanities. BWR plywood (IS 303) handles splashes and humidity well. It is the usual choice for kitchen carcass work and wardrobes. But it is not meant for standing water over time.
A common mistake is using BWP plywood for the whole kitchen. Often only the sink unit needs it. This adds cost with no real benefit for cabinets that never sit in water. BWR plywood already handles everyday splashes and steam.
Waterproof does not mean termite proof. Ask the vendor which grade and IS standard is printed on the quotation. Do not accept just the word waterproof ply. Ask separately what termite treatment the board has had.
- BWP plywood (IS 710): under-sink cabinets, bathroom vanities
- BWR plywood (IS 303): kitchen carcass, wardrobes, utility cabinets
- Check the quotation for the IS standard, not just the word waterproof
- Ask the vendor about termite treatment separately from water resistance
